COLUMBIA- The University of Missouri men’s lacrosse team defeated Iowa 16-4 Friday night at Stankowski Field.
With the win, Mizzou (4-9, 2-1) moves to second place in the GRLC West. The top three teams will play in the GRLC Playoffs starting April 29 in St. Louis.
The Tigers played dominant throughout the whole game, leading the Hawkeyes 7-1 at half before lighting up their conference foes for six goals in the third quarter.
The offense experienced their most well-balanced game of the season, with the attack and midfield each tallying a eight goals. Leading the way for the offense was freshman Noah Iverson (St. Louis, Desmet Jesuit) who had his second nine point game in a row (five goals, four assists).
Goalies Matt Needham (Northbrook, IL, Glenbrook North) and John Marshall (St. Louis, St. Louis University High) combined for 10 saves while only letting in three goals against the Iowa offense.
Senior face-off specialist Phil Bergman (Media, PA, Strath Haven) went 16 for 19 from the x.
The Tigers will be back on Stankowski Sunday for their final game of the regular season against GRLC West rival Nebraska. Before the game the program will be honoring the team’s six graduating seniors playing their final game on Stankowski.
With a win the Tigers will clinch the second-seed in the GRLC West. A loss to the Huskers will force a three-way tie for second and third place with Iowa and Nebraska in the West.
