University of Missouri Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2011-2012 Captains

Mizzou Lacrosse is proud to announce the captains for the 2011-2012 season. Returning for his third year as captain is senior Josh Nelson. Last year Nelson was an All-American as well as a first team All-Conference player at long stick midfielder in the GRLC. Interim coach Eric Chole said, “(Nelson) has been a tremendous asset to the team not only for his playing ability but also for his leadership. He has proven to be the glue that holds the team together during adversity.”

Accompanying Nelson is senior Zach Nisson. Nisson, an attackman, had a great year, earning All-American, first team All-Conference and was named the GRLC’s offensive player of the year. Chole said, “Zach Nisson has proven himself to be a great player earning All-American honors last year. He has definitely stepped up and become the leader and quarterback of the offense. The team as a whole really looks up to him.”

Ryan Turnquist was also named captain. Turnquist is a senior midfielder who returns to the team after taking a year off. “Ryan Turnquist is a first-time captain here at Mizzou,” Chole said. “This fall he has really stepped up as a leader of the midfield. He is a great player and an amazing athlete. He plays with a sense of confidence that the younger guys really admire.”

Lastly, rounding out the captains this year is James Stannard. Stannard is a senior and the face-off specialist for the Tigers. Stannard earned second team All-Conference honors last year in the GRLC. Chole said, “James Stannard is the workhorse of the team. He is an outstanding face-off man who leads by example. James is the kind of player who sells out for every face off and every ground ball. It is his drive and tenacity that makes his so successful at the faceoff x and is what makes him a good leader.”

With the captains now set, the Tigers are focused and ready for the upcoming season.
