Fundraising project: Converting chairbacks into greenbacks

How many lacrosse players does it take to install 1,100 stadium chair backs? The better question is how long does it take for a lacrosse team to install 1,100 stadium chairs backs.

The team spent about four hours Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, installing the the backs at Memorial Stadium, home of the Missouri football team. The backs are ordered by season ticket holders and they all had to be installed Friday in preparation for Saturday’s home opener against McNeese State.

The activity was a fund raiser for the team but turned out to be a great bonding opportunity according to Joe Vale, one of the faculty advisers, who helped install the seats. Joe said, “this really showed who has the strongest work ethic among the guys. For the most part, they worked like dogs — no griping or complaining, lots of cooperation. Good team-building activity!” He noted that afterward the freshmen and team president Josh Nelson dined together on campus.

The team will be paid per seat installed, which was estimated to be about 1,100 seats. The exact amount of money raised hasn’t yet been determined, but the team has already asked to return at the end of the season to take them down.

The team has an ambitious schedule for the spring and is looking for more fund raising opportunities. Please let us know if you have ideas or would like to make a donation to the team. You can contact Josh Nelson or James Stannard.
